This online exhibition is the result of more than twenty years of work by professors and students at the Centre d\u2019histoire des r\u00e9gulations sociales (CHRS). It has been adapted from the exhibition titled Pushing Back at Fate: Poverty, Families and Institutions, <\/em>presented at the \u00c9comus\u00e9e du fier monde in fall 2019 and winter 2020.<\/p>\n

Le Centre d\u2019histoire des r\u00e9gulations sociales (CHRS)<\/h4>\n

Established in 1990, the CHRS is a multidisciplinary team of researchers interested in the history of vulnerability, marginality, and crime in Quebec. The team consists of faculty members and students from multiple universities. For several years, the CHRS has benefitted from the support of the Fonds de recherche Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et Culture du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n

\u00c9comus\u00e9e du fier monde (EFM)<\/h4>\n

Established in 1980, the EFM is a people\u2019s museum dedicated to Montreal\u2019s industrial and working-class history. Recognized and supported by the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications and the Conseil des arts de Montr\u00e9al, the EFM showcases the history and heritage of Montreal\u2019s Centre-Sud neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

In terms of museum practice, the EFM focuses on popular education through participatory programming, developed in close collaboration with neighbourhood residents, institutions, and organizations. The EFM also participates in discussions on the community\u2019s present and future development.<\/p>\n
